Discipleship has its costs, but Jesus will not reject anyone who comes to Him. When invited guests in a parable refused to attend a gala, the doors were opened to people off the streets. Like a shepherd who brings a lost sheep back into the fold or a woman who finds a lost coin, the Lord seeks the lost. In a story puzzling at first glance, Jesus depicted a manager about to get fired and the way he ensured that others would owe him favors. Our Lord knows the ways of the world but wants us to follow His ways. How often do we try to earn God’s favor instead of humbly thanking Him?
