Lord Jesus, The celebration of Your birth is near; Help me to draw nearer to You. You came to share our humanity; Come into my heart anew. Advent is a time of waiting But of preparation, too. Thank You for this moment Which I give with love to You. Amen.

God, our Father, Who promised descendants To number as stars in the sky, I join with the angelic choir Giving praise and glory on high. Lord Jesus, Born unto the world, Heralded by a star above, Lamb of God and Shepherd for us, I rejoice in Your light and love. Holy Spirit, Who is with us always, That faith may shine for all to see, I pray that hope may be renewed By the light of this Christmas tree. Amen.

Lord, thank You for inviting me to follow You And for the times You wait for me to catch up. Learning from You, may I be patient with others, A visible sign of the love You envelop. Amen.

O Loving Lord, As I await Christmas celebration, May I draw closer to you. In this time of preparation, Please guide all that I do. May I wait with glad anticipation, As a child, hopeful and excited. Please grant me affirmation In each Advent candle lighted. May belief be the punctuation In all the tidings that I voice. Please be my strength and animation, Savior in whose love I rejoice. Amen.

Lord Jesus, You are with us always; may I never ignore Your love. You guide us through Your Holy Spirit; may I be open to grace in all that I do. You are our awaited Savior; may I always be prepared to welcome You. You are in people all around us; may I unfailingly see You. Amen.

Lord, when Your will is shown to me, As to the Virgin Mary, May I answer, “Let it be done,” And treasure the blessings that come to be. Wherever I may journey, As did the Virgin Mary, May my words reflect to others The gift of Your love growing within me. You were born unto the world As to the Virgin Mary, May I turn to You in faith, my Savior, Like a child reaching up in need. Searching anxiously for You As did Joseph and Mary, May I come to where You are found, Although at times I somehow fail to see. When I bring concerns to You, As did the Virgin Mary, May I heed the words at Cana To do in faith whatever You tell me. Amen.

Blessed Virgin Mary, holy Mother of God, I ask You to join me today in prayer, Filled with gratitude that, with the Lord, We are one in communion of faith. When I’m not quite sure what God desires of me, May greater awareness be His gift. Because I am imperfect, May I, in sorrow, humbly seek forgiveness. 11/30/19: When Days are Hard
Lord, many things can make days hard. In loneliness, stark as an empty chair, Please bring me peaceful solitude. With yet another piece of paperwork to do, Please write Your love again on my heart. When the weather makes me cry, “Enough,” Please calm the storminess of my mood. In the face of illness I can’t ignore, May I unite my suffering with Yours. Lord Jesus, You came to lighten the burdens That discourage and distract from You. When days are hard, please give me courage To hope beyond the struggle and setback. Amen.

In the traditions handed down, May insightfulness be found, Recalling now the desire for peace Shared together at harvest feast. On our journey of faith, Lord, You are with us wherever we go. Please keep travelers safe As highways and byways lead them To the embrace of loved ones waiting. When they depart again for home, Godspeed along the way. May the happiness of time together Stay within their hearts. Lord, may every mile here on Earth Bring us closer to You. Amen.

Lord Jesus, When I am worried, anxious, or afraid, Please grant me peace of heart, If only for the moments I spend in prayer with You. For young people making choices, Please give them mentors who will teach That violence never ends well. For nations in strife, Please bestow wisdom on leaders Whose decisions can devastate or elevate humanity. Where there is bitterness, Please open hearts to forgiveness, The door to peace. Amen.
11/23/19: The Gift of Faith’s Mystery
Heavenly Father, Your eternal plan surpasses my understanding, and yet the mystery is a gift. I give You thanks that whatever happens, there is hope; when loved ones are snatched away, the love remains; disaster can bring people together; it is possible to cry tears of both sadness and joy; You have created what science can only discover; and in Your plan, I matter. Please bring me to the day in heavenly glory when I will no longer ask You anything but only rejoice with joy that will be unending! Amen.
